If it is the Archmage, I’m guessing those are there so he can go incognito as he feels like. (Just because you’re famous doesn’t mean you want to be recognized every time you go grocery shopping…and, obviously, he could blend in for other situations for security as well as obscurity.)

Knowing Sage, it may very well be a short, busty girl with animal ears or horns.
unless more than just illusion magic is involved they can’t be much larger than their visible form as that gets very awkward very quickly but yes other than that not much can told for certain
